Faithful living in times of crisis

FAITHFUL LIVING IN TIMES OF CRISIS

JOB ( pronounced “YOB” ) was a prosperous man who comes from the Land of Uz. Where “Uz” was / is widely debated but one thing we know for sure is that it is NOT a part of Israel. This information comes to us at a time when scholars believe that JOB was a gentile who knew the GOD OF ISRAEL very intimately and this at a time when the written TORAH may / may not have been written yet – strange is it not ?

JOB had a through understanding of what it meant to obey GOD by “choosing life” ( Deut 30 : 19 ) by living a life entirely pleasing to the GOD of ISRAEL. He lives a blessed life with all his dreams coming true one by one until one day … until one day , on a single day ( 24 hours ) he loses everything precious to him – all his children, all his wealth and soon thereafter his health. All this is recorded for us in Job chapter 1. If JOB was a Jew and if he was alive in the 20th century he would be called a Holocaust Survivor.

In spite of all of the above taken from him abruptly JOB remains loyal to the GOD of ISRAEL which forces us Christians alive in the 21st Century to ask “how come”. JOB’s life goes through a tailspin while his wife curses him and calls upon him to commit suicide while his 3 + 1 close friends who knew JOB intimately condemn him.

The rest of the Book of Job traces the struggles of this “righteous” man ( even GOD called him that in Job 1 :  ) as to how he fights to keep his faith in GOD intact while everything around him says “let go and forget GOD”.

Many say that the BOOK OF JOB answers the question : “WHY DO THE RIGHTEOUS SUFFER ?” After reading this book again and again I have come to the conclusion and conviction that this is the wrong question to ask in JOB. The right question will be “HOW CAN THE RIGHTEOUS MAINTAIN THEIR FAITH IN GOD WHILE THEY SUFFER ?”

At a time when so many of GOD’s peoples faith is being tested by losing loved ones to COVID ( Between 2020 / 2021 I had lost 7 Pastors known to me personally from India ) or having prayers not answered or having lost your jobs.

There are 12 lessons in this 'Book of Job' course.
